Belle Epoque

French for 'beautiful' The Belle Epoque time period lasted from 1890- the start of world war one in 1914. This was a period of optimism, peace at home and in Europe. The peace that there was in Paris allowed the arts and Fashion to flourish.


Edwardian

After the death of Queen Victoria in 1901. King Edward came into power.

Edward was the leader of a fashionable elite that set a style influenced by the art and fashions of Continental Europe perhaps because of the kings fondness for travel.
Even though King edward died in 1910 sometimes this period extends to include the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.



Art Nouveau
1890-1910
The art movement 'Art Nouveau' was also introduced. Art Nouveau is french for 'new art'


The Exposition Universelle announced art Nouveau as a new style in Architecture and design.
The Exposition Universelle was Visited by fifty-one million people, the fair included Art Nouveau architecture, furniture, jewelry, ceramics, posters, glass, textiles, and metalwork.

In Paris and France a world fair was opened from April 15 to November 12, 1900. This was used to celebrate the achievements they have held in the past century and also to accelerate the development into the next.





Victorian Era

The period of Queen Victoria's reign was from 20th June 1837 until she died on 22nd January 1901. there was a victorian style of clothing but this ended in 1912.
this period of time was filled with peace, prosperity, and national self-confidence for Britain.


1750-1850
Industrial Revolution
Then industrial revolution marks a major point in history. nearly every aspect of a persons daily life was influenced in some way. It was this point when electric sewing machines were developed.
